Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:ProtectedPages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for protection increases at the BOTTOM of this section. If you cannot find your request, check the archive of requests or, failing that, the page history. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary or indefinite semi-protection: See Laval Rocket entry. The Kip (contribs) 17:21, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Bbb23 (talk) 17:57, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Bbb23 I'm taking issue with this rationale and strongly urge you to reconsider - virtually all of the IPs you see editing on the page in recent memory are the same LTA, most of them have been temp-banned as sockpuppets, and Fowler's page itself was recent semi-protected for that exact reason. SPI has usually been slow on banning prior socks and protection is the best way to stop them at this point, considering 99% of their contribs are via IPs. The Kip (contribs) 20:00, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@The Kip: As a second opinion, I agree with Bbb23. There have been two edits from what you call the LTA since the previous protection expired. If things really kick off again, please feel free to re-file here. Apologies, Ed [talk] [OMT] 00:25, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@The ed17 There have been six edits from IPs likely to be the LTA. The Kip (contribs) 01:07, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@The Kip: My apologies—I assumed that LTA edits would have been reverted. I've thrown a one-month protection on the page to reduce the reversion burden. Semi-protected for a period of one month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Ed [talk] [OMT] 05:10, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Persistent move-warring by User:Hako33, who is completely ignoring the procedure at WP:PCM despite multiple warnings. 162 etc. (talk) 19:43, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism. GustavoCza (talkcontribs) 22:08, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection: block-evading sockpuppetry by auto-confirmed account. Left guide (talk) 22:09, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 years, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Materialscientist (talk) 00:31, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Requesting immediate archiving... Yes, it has been ECP as requested. Favonian (talk) 05:34, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. WP:NOTHERE now blocked user added a blatant message to my talk page. Freedoxm (talk · contribs) 03:54, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Note: This has been confirmed as a sock of @TzarN64. Now persistent sockpuppetry. Freedoxm (talk · contribs) 04:28, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected for a period of 12 hours, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Hoping this will all cool down now that te ANI case is closed. — rsjaffe 🗣️ 06:00, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Constant disruptive editing after promotion to Ligue 1 for the first time in 46 years. People keep adding their future stadium and future league participation, despite current season not being over. Paul Vaurie (talk) 05:31, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: The protection is no longer necessary because there are changes needed without any protection. Geordy Wibisana (talk) 16:23, 3 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Not unprotected – Please use an edit request to request specific changes to be made to the protected page. Your rationale for unprotecting makes no sense at all. Either make the changes or request changes on the talk page. ~Anachronist (talk) 03:37, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection: It is not needed on this article the M25 is a much more major road and does not have protection. I politely request it be removes Thanks. Theknoledgeableperson (talk) 20:31, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging @Drmies: as protecting admin. However, your stated rationale is not a valid one. Daniel Case (talk) 03:45, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Daniel Case, you saw the history; the finer details escape me but it was a longterm issue. Who knows, it may be over by now (and you're right about the rationale, which I actually don't understand); this new editor, with a somewhat strange history, I guess we'll find out soon enough if they're the same. Drmies (talk) 03:52, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That was I wanted to explain: the importance of the subject has nothing to do with why it does, or does not, receive protection. Daniel Case (talk) 03:54, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
